The whole community is in shock. He was loved, honoured and duly respected by everybody. He was a generous man in everyway and he would always help anybody. No one would ever give him any back chat. We are all in shell shock that he’s gone and absolutely shocked that he even got attacked. He was loved very much and he was a very colourful character, bit of a rough diamond like “Del boy”. He was a lovely, lovely man. They broke the mould when they made him.

Julie Powell, 43, of Costessey, who knew Roy for about 15 years

I used to know Roy when we were at school and we used to go to speedway together in the 60s. It’s such a shock to me. It’s such a terrible thing to happen – he was such a lovely guy.

Keith Huckell, 63, of Old Palace Road

He was a lovely man. He used to deliver my mum’s fruit and vegetables and he used to go to school with my sister. I only saw him the other day. He was a lovely man.

Christine Ellis, born Barney, 58, of Norwich

He was generous and a very nice man and easy to get on with. He was well known.

Todd Moore, 16, Beverly Road

Everyone on this estate is devastated. He was a lifeline to all the elderly people, delivering their fruit and veg, and he helped so many people, not just the elderly. The whole community is in shock. He loved Norwich City. He was my husband’s best friend and our lives will never be the same again without him. He was such a character, a laugh a minute kind of guy and he was larger than life.

Wendy Green

i live near roy and i have known him for 15 years he was a very kind man and did not deserve to die he was muched loved and will sadly be missed.

Luke Sexton

I would just like to pass on our deepest sympathies to roys family i had the pleasure of knowing roy for 10 years and he will be sadly missed by myself and my partner [ who roy would refer to as the good lookin woman of ranworth road ] our thoughts are with you

Owen Franklin

He was only round mine on Friday delivering my fruit and veg. He was such a lovely man. He said to me ‘I’m off to the football tomorrow but I will check if there’s anything you need’. That was him – a wonderful, lovely, kind, respectable man.

Edna Bassill, 84, of Buckingham Road

I grew up on the Earlham estate and I knew Roy all my life, not just when he was a greengrocer but before that.

He was a lovely man, he was very hard working and dutiful. He will be sadly missed. There will be a huge funeral for that man.

Gary Kerslake, 48, from Mile Cross

I knew Roy quite well and was shocked when I found out he’d died. It’s unbelievable. He was a true Norwich City supporter and will be sadly missed. My sympathy goes out to his family.

Simon Ward, 38, Ampthill Street

Mr Wymer was kind-hearted and friendly. If he could help anyone he would. He was always kind to my children and he will be sadly missed by Paul, Marilyn, Darren and Shelly.
Paul Hobart, 50, Heartsease

As I have been living abroad for the past twenty odd years I regularly check the local news on the internet and I was shocked to read about the tragic death of Mr. Wymer, it leaves me speechless. I would like to pay my respects to a real genuine and decent bloke who will always be a part of my childhood memories. I remember buying fruit and veg for my mum during the summer holidays, and Roy was always friendly and in a good mood.

My deepest sympathy goes out to his family.

Rest in peace Roy.

I’ve known Roy for about 20 years and he was a great bloke. He was a man everybody respected and he helped anybody that he could. He was one really good bloke and I want to send my condolences to his son, daughter and grandchildren. He’s going to be sorely missed and he didn’t deserve to go that way.

We send our deepest sympathy to Roy Wymers family, he will be sadly missed by so many people. He was the kind of man that anyone could get along with.
Derek, Emily, Camilla, Sabrina-Mellisa, Eleanor & Briana Moore

Roy Wymer had a real way with people, always keen to share a joke and have a wind up over football.
Back in the eighties before Eaton park community centre was built Roy often gave fruit for a raffle prize. He was so generous to the then South Park community asociation. He was always helping to sell raffle tickets and his support was done without praise or acknowledgement of the wider community. That was Roy a real good community minded generous man who went the extra mile for all the old folks around south park and north park estates
Roy will be missed by many and remembered by all god bless Roy
The Self family

From Sue and the girls at the grooming parlour.

I have known Roy all my life, I remember as a child going with my mum to buy his fruit & veg on a Friday evening!
I grew up and moved away from the area, until about 5 years ago when I moved back to South Park and regularly on a Friday & Saturday tea-time we would hear the familiar hoot on the horn of Roy around the streets selling his fruit & veg, he was a great guy who really will be missed by all of us but especially the elderly community.
I know only last year he called on one of his elderly customers and couldn't get no answer and looked through the letter box to find the lady collapsed on the floor, he was the one who called for an ambulance if it hadn't been for him and his regular call who knows how long that lady would have been there.
About 3 years ago I was unfortunate to be a victim of Road Rage and who came to my rescue, Roy in his fruit & veg van, he helped get the man away from me and stayed with me until the police came and also attended court with me to support me and be a witness for the incident, he was such a kind and decent man, words cannot describe the sadness that we all feel he did not deserve to die, he was a great guy, my thoughts are with his family.
Rachael

I have known Roy for 46 years and my family knew him and his family before that, i was born 4 doors away from Roy, at the age of 6 we moved away but we still saw him on his rounds.
when i married i moved back to Beverly road and Roy was one of the first to welcome me back to the area, he always had time for a chat and if we were just passing by each other in our cars we would always make a point of waving to each other.
He also kept contact with my dad because he delivered his veg for him and it seemed like they would talk for ages about the old days.
Roy will be sadly missed by our family and all who knew him, he will be a loss to the area and to Norwich as a whole, and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
Rest in peace Roy.
The Massen family.

he was a really nice person to get along with, he was well known around the area we will all miss him he will always be in our thoughts he will live in our memory forever, it should not have happened to him. he was much loved by every one and will sadly be missed

I've know Roy for a few years now even before I started grooming his dog Poppy two years ago after he decided he could no longer take her to her usual grooming parlour due to her having fits and collapsing as soon as she got through their door. Poppy and Chelsea were his girls and he refused to take a holiday away from home because he didn't like to leave them, and Poppy didn't travel very well. I would spend 2 and half hours at Roys grooming Poppy and during that time there were dozens of people popping in and out for a chat and and cuppa. He was a man in a million. He'd do anything for anyone and we'd do anything to have him back with us. God take care of him.
Christine from Paddy Paws

RIP Roy..
I have known Roy all my life and was such a great man to get on with. Sunday evening i had seen Roy walking his dogs through the old peoples home on Cadge Road leading to Bowthorpe Road just before it happened. I didnt hear about this until the following day by a very close friend of mine on Msn Messenger and i didnt really believe her. A few minutes later i rang my dad up and asked him if it was true about Roy passing away and he said yes.
I was heart broken and still am at this moment in time and i cried myself to sleep that night.
It was very shocking news to hear about Roy and i just didn't know what to say.
Roy was a very decent guy who would get on well with anyone and everyone and did not deserve to pass away.
Roy took me and others to alot of Norwich City away games and i was going to go to Sheffield United last saturday but i couldnt.
Roy was such a laugh at all times and he never stopped smiling.
We are all going to miss Roy so much and are all very sad that he isnt hear to have a laugh with us anymore..
Roy will never be forgotten from the day he passed away and will always be loved but sadly missed by many..
Sleep tight Roy.. God Bless xxx
Scott Skyring

I have known Roy for 25 years and I am still deeply shocked and saddened by his untimely death!
I would regularly go to see him and I would always come away laughing because he would constantly joke with me about putting on a little weight - hence the nickname he had for me, 'Chinny' :-)
But that was Roy, always pulling your leg about something but at the same time always there with a friendly smile and ready to listen - always a very happy and cheerful man!
South park will never be the same on a Friday and Saturday night without the sound of the horn on his veggie van being heard around the estate.
Our deepest sympathies to to all Roy's family, and brother Mick.
Karen (Chinny) & Daphne Battisson

Roy wymer was a friend of the family for decades originally friends with darkie and lily who are now deceased but remained friends with their children and grandchildren. He was always there to make you laugh he will be sadly missed by every member of the skelton family. The whole earlham estate are in complete shock they never expected to lose such a kind, generous, and humurous man in this way who was only out doing what he loves taking his dogs for a walk. R . I. P.
Lots of love the Skelton family.

I have known Roy for eight years and worked with him for three years on his fruit and veg round on a Friday after school. I worked with Roy the Friday before this happened, and we had to do two rounds because he was going to watch Norwich City play away. When we got back to his he was dancing around his conservatory saying 'I'm as fit as anything' - Icouldn't stop laughing. Roy made everyone laugh. He was a great friend to me and I will miss him very much and will miss seeing him every day - he was one of the best! Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time. Beverley Road will never be the same again without him. he never deserved this. He would make jokes about my mum when we were on his rounds, But that was Roy - always laughing and joking around. His family meant the world to him and his friends. If anyone needed anything Roy would try his best to help. I will miss you Roy very much. RIP

Liam and family

I didn’t know Roy as well as many people, but I knew him well enough to enjoy his personality. He was a good friend of my parents; he was always smiling, no matter what. He would always find time to have a chat with you, no matter who you were, what you did, or what you wanted to talk about. He was forever making jokes and making people laugh. I loved his dogs, and I know how much he loved them, I myself am a dog person and it’s a shame that Poppy and Chelsea are now without his care and devotion. It’s a horrible thing that has happened and when you read all his tributes, it just shows that he will be missed dearly. He’ll have a place in everyone’s heart and no one will ever forget him.

Kerry, Christine and Paul Blakemore’s Daughter

We have known Roy for over 30 years. He was one of the best people you could ever have as a friend. Will be sadly missed by many who knew this popular man. Our thoughts are with his family. God bless you Roy.
